Frequently Asked Questions
What is therapy like?
Therapy is your time and place to talk about the things going on in your life. It’s a no-judgement zone where you will feel seen, heard, and supported. It’s a chance for you to get help with the hard things that are going on. Therapy usually lasts between 45-50 minutes. It might overwhelm you to think about coming up with things to talk about. Your therapist will always have a plan to make talking easier so all the pressure isn’t on you. It’s normal to feel nervous at first, but after a few sessions you might notice that you really look forward to therapy and it brings you comfort. You might learn things like how your brain works, how to manage stress better, or how your thoughts are impacting you.
Will therapy be private?
Yes, therapy is confidential. However, there are three main reasons why confidentiality may need to be breached.
If you share about being a danger to yourself or someone else.
If there is suspected abuse in the past or present that has occurred to you, a child, elderly person, or other vulnerable adult.
If the court orders a release of information as part of a legal proceeding.
You have a right to privacy in therapy. For you to have the best therapy experience, therapy should take place in a private place where you feel comfortable. Your parent/caregiver might ask about goals that we are working on, but specific details of what you talk about in therapy will remain private. Sometimes your parents/caregivers might meet with your therapist to get advice on how to help you. You might even decide that you want to have a session with your parents/caregivers to talk about things in a supportive space. You and your therapist will talk about this if you decide it might be helpful.
How frequently does therapy occur?
Therapy usually starts out weekly, and can taper down from there. The length of time you’re in therapy depends on what’s going on for you and how much help you think you need. Some clients prefer to have monthly sessions for extra support after they have met some of their goals.
Do you provide virtual therapy?
True Wellness offers the option to meet virtually to help with busy schedules that make coming to the office hard. We will use Zoom for virtual therapy sessions, unless we decide that another platform is better for you. You’ll have the best experience if you can use a laptop or computer, but sometimes clients prefer using a phone or tablet. You’ll need to make sure online therapy occurs at home, and not in the car or other public location. Your therapist may ask to reschedule the session if your location is not private or secure.
Do you provide in-person therapy?
Yes! True Wellness provides in-person therapy conveniently located in the Carrollwood area. We are located at 13911 Carrollwood Village Run, Tampa, Fl 33618.
